The Brains of Banknote Processing Systems
Jan Domke, Klaus Thierauf, Giesecke & Devrient Currency Technology, GermanyGiesecke+Devrient Currency Technology develops sensors for modular, high-performance banknote processing systems that are used by professional cash centers to sort millions of banknotes every day. Banknotes are fed through a conveyor belt system and transported through arrays of sensors that detect counterfeits and sort based on denomination, fitness, or currency type. Engineers and physicists designing such high-performance systems use multiphysics simulation to optimize magnetic, optical, and ultrasonic sensors based on customer specifications.
