Shaft Vibration due to Gear Rattle and Bearing Misalignment
Application ID: 78291
Gear rattle and bearing misalignment are common sources of vibration and noise in gearboxes. This example considers two geared shafts supported by roller bearings. Backlash causes intermittent tooth contact and induces shaft vibrations when the driven shaft is unloaded and the driving shaft rotates at a varying speed. Applying a resisting torque to the driven shaft results in continuous tooth contact and smoother meshing.
The model also investigates the effect of bearing misalignment on rotor vibrations by comparing cases with aligned bearings and with a small angular misalignment in one bearing.
This model example illustrates applications of this type that would nominally be built using the following products:
however, additional products may be required to completely define and model it. Furthermore, this example may also be defined and modeled using components from the following product combinations:
The combination of COMSOL® products required to model your application depends on several factors and may include boundary conditions, material properties, physics interfaces, and part libraries. Particular functionality may be common to several products. To determine the right combination of products for your modeling needs, review the Tabella delle Funzionalità and make use of a free evaluation license.
