Vibration in a Washing Machine Assembly

Vibration and noise caused by the nonuniform distribution of clothes in the drum are common problems in washing machines and are important considerations in their design and optimization.

This model simulates a horizontal-axis portable washing machine using the Multibody Dynamics interface. An eigenfrequency analysis is performed to compute the natural frequencies and mode shapes of the entire assembly. A transient analysis is performed to analyze the vibrations induced in the housing during the spin cycle. The housing is modeled as a flexible shell.
