Slider Crank Mechanism with Joint Clearance

Clearance between connected components is often introduced to facilitate assembly and allow relative motion. However, clearance in joints can generate impact forces that adversely affect system performance and lead to noise and vibration.

This model compares the dynamic behavior of a slider crank mechanism with and without joint clearance. A transient analysis is used to investigate the effect of clearance on the slider motion, crank moment, journal motion within the bearing, and reaction force in the clearance joint. All components of the mechanism are modeled as rigid.
