In this example, the structural integrity of a cylinder made of a fiber-reinforced composite is assessed at both the macroscale and the microscale. In addition to macroscale analyses, structural composites require microscale stress and failure analyses to identify the critical constituents of laminate structures.

Analyses at both the macro- and microscale, referred to as multiscale analyses, provide in-depth insight into the response of the composite structure and its constituents. They also help investigate the micromechanics of failure under macroscale loading.
