Selection of solvers in 3D problem

Please login with a confirmed email address before reporting spam

Hi,

I am using two modules- free and porous medium (for fluid flow) and species transport through porous membrane (for mass transport) in a 3 D geometry. I solve first the fluid flow in stationary mode and then use the solution of the velocity profile to calculate mass transport in transient mode. I am using Direct solvers for this analysis.
The velocity profile by the stationary analysis is good however, I obtain a lot of artifacts in the concentration profile even though i use extremly fine mesh generation and also it takes lot of memory and time to solve the process.

Should i try using iterative solvers?. can you please guide me on criteria to select these solvers , preconditioners, smoothers etc ??

Thanks,

Pranay
