                                                    Ramona,
PML would not work properly for a time-dependent analysis for version 4.0 of Structural Mechanics Module. Low Reflecting Boundary should be used instead of PML for time-dependent analysis, but this type of boundary condition is available in 4.3a only.
Regards,
Sergei

Thanks for your reply.
Do you know if the PML in the time domain works in Comsol version 3.5a (Structural Mechanics module)?
Best regards.

                                                    Hi Sergei.
How is the accuracy of PML in version 5.3 for time-dependent study?
Why the PML doesn't work at all in time-dependent studies?
Thanks!

                                                    Pedro,
PML was originally developed by J.-P. Berenger in 1994 for electromagnetic waves in frequency domain.
PML imposes a complex-valued mathematical coordinate transformation to eliminate wave back-reflection at interface. And because of complex-valued nature of this transformation, it is inherently applicable to wave propagation in frequency domain, since frequency domain deals with complex valued fields (phasors and phase).
The only wave propagation physics interface with PMLs available in time domain is Pressure Acoustics starting version 5.3. Structural and electromagnetic wave interfaces do not have PLMs in time domain.
Regards,
Sergei

Low Reflecting Boundary for time-dependent analysis does not solve the problem also, especially for the 3d simulations. Is there another option in Comsol 5.2, to reduce the reflection of boundary in time-dependent analysis?
