solving PDEs in curvilinear coordinates in any maths module

In any module other than maths, one can define constitutive models and boundary conditions in defined curvilinear coordinates by defining coordinate systems in the "definition" node and switching to desired coordinates in the physics node. In any maths module this seems impossible even when new coordinate systems are defined in the "definition" node? Equation solving in any maths module must be in Cartesian coordinates?
