Shape and Topology Optimization with COMSOL Multiphysics® - Archived

Various industries, including the medical device, consumer electronics, and aerospace & defense industries, rely on shape and topology optimization to create innovative, lightweight parts while meeting design requirements. The COMSOL Multiphysics® software makes it possible to use shape and topology optimization in combination with high-fidelity multiphysics models. The Optimization Module, an add-on to COMSOL Multiphysics®, provides built-in features for modifying a geometry in order to improve product performance. During the optimization process, topology optimization enables the removal and addition of material, while shape optimization enables deformation of the existing geometry.
In this webinar, we will provide an overview of the shape and topology optimization capabilities of the software, highlighting several example models from different application areas. We will also discuss the density method (for topology optimization) and the built-in features for shape optimization with varying degrees of design freedom. The overall workflow will be demonstrated with examples for both shape and topology optimization, covering features for defining custom objective functions, incorporating manufacturing constraints and symmetry conditions, and exporting the optimized geometry.
