Designing a high-power laser system involves ensuring not only that the cavity is stable and the laser is properly focused under ideal operating conditions, but also that the system's performance is maintained when heating and deformation of the lenses and mirrors are taken into account.

Structural-thermal-optical performance (STOP) analysis, a quintessential multiphysics problem, provides a method of testing high-power laser systems under realistic operating conditions, allowing thermal expansion and refractive index distribution to be fully coupled with changes in the ray trajectories.

In this session, we will show how to use the Ray Optics Module, an add-on to COMSOL Multiphysics®, to test the stability of laser cavities and utilize STOP analysis for identifying thermally induced focal shifts in high-power laser systems.
