Inertial measurement units (IMUs), electromechanical devices that measure the inertial and rotational forces acting on a body, are widely used in various applications, including vehicle navigation, smartphone motion tracking, camera stabilization, and gaming. They typically consist of a combination of accelerometers and gyroscopes aligned along different axes in space, integrated with electronics for signal processing and data output. As demand grows for more compact, cost-effective, and sensitive IMUs for these applications, accurate modeling and simulation of the underlying accelerometers and gyroscopes becomes critical. Such simulations help reduce development time and cost while improving manufacturability and performance predictions.

In this webinar, we will discuss how the COMSOL Multiphysics® software can be used to model MEMS accelerometers and gyroscopes. The presentation will include a live demonstration that couples electrostatics and structural mechanics physics in an accelerometer design.
