Squeeze film flow with free boundary
Application ID: 139071
This model demonstrates the use of the Two-Phase Thin-Film Flow, Phase Field multiphysics coupling, which can be used to predict the evolution of an interface between two different, immiscible fluids in thin, narrow channels.
The example here presents a free boundary lubrication problem, where a lubricant is pressed between two parallel plates. The lubricant in the gap between the plates is modeled using the Thin-Film Flow interface. The Two-Phase Thin-Film Flow, Phase Field coupling enables the simulation of the radial growth of the lubricant film as the plates move toward each other.

This model example illustrates applications of this type that would nominally be built using the following products:
however, additional products may be required to completely define and model it. Furthermore, this example may also be defined and modeled using components from the following product combinations:
The combination of COMSOL® products required to model your application depends on several factors and may include boundary conditions, material properties, physics interfaces, and part libraries. Particular functionality may be common to several products. To determine the right combination of products for your modeling needs, review the Tabella delle Funzionalità and make use of a free evaluation license.
