Design Module Updates

For users of the Design Module, COMSOL Multiphysics® version 6.4 introduces human manikin geometry parts, support for the latest CAD file formats, and 3D CAD assembly previews in the Graphics window. Read about these updates and more below.

Part Library for Humanlike Manikins

The Part Library now includes female and male human manikin geometry parts with parameterized joint angles and predefined sitting, standing, and running positions. These parts also support scalable body height while maintaining basic proportions.

Updated CAD File Import

The CAD file import functionality now supports the latest versions of all compatible file formats. For a complete list of supported CAD file formats, visit the Read from File, CAD section of the CAD specification chart.

3D Preview of CAD Assemblies

Selecting specific components to import from a CAD assembly is now easier with the new 3D preview functionality within the Graphics window. This preview functionality is available when importing CAD assemblies saved in the file formats of the Inventor®, NX™, PTC Creo Parametric™, PTC Pro/ENGINEER®, and SOLIDWORKS® software.

Geometry Cleanup Improvements

The geometry analysis in the Geometry Cleanup functionality has been improved to more reliably detect small geometric features and to perform better on geometries with many details. Small details in the geometry, such as gaps, thin domains, narrow face regions, small faces, slivers, and short edges, are automatically detected and removed to generate a high-quality mesh for simulation. New Tutorial Model

COMSOL Multiphysics® version 6.4 brings one new tutorial model to the Design Module.

Creating Modeling Domains Around a CAD Geometry

This tutorial model demonstrates how to create domains for modeling around an imported CAD assembly and how to use the defeaturing tools to delete geometric details.
