changing voltage values over time

When establishing electric potentials in the boundary conditions, is it possible to vary the electric potential values over time and to monitor the resultant electric field/temperature plots as they vary with time?

I tried using a logical expression in the field where one establishes the Electric potential:

500*(t<1)+500*(t>3)

but that causes an error:

Time 0.999999999999997:
Repeated error test failures. May have reached a singularity.
Last time step is not converged.

Any suggestions?

I forgot to mention I'm using version 3.4

I tried scripting, and one can change the values of constants using a script for different times, initializing new simulations based on the previous, but then one cannot view the temperature or electric field for all time points.
