Temperature circulation in DC Arc Furnace

Please login with a confirmed email address before reporting spam

I am working on a simulation of DC electric arc furnace on Comsol 4.2a, and I have come to a problem on how to calculate temperature circulation. I have a very simple model of electric DC arc furnace, with is three top electrodes, supply voltage U = 100 V and grounded three bottom electrodes. I used Joule Heating Module to make a solution on temperatures which are caused by current passing through metal - it is working very well.

Next, I would like to proceed with simulation of metal flow due to temperature effects. Here I have some problems. First, I do not know which module to choose in order to calculate the circulation of metal caused by temperature difference in different locations. At this time it seems to me that when I choose whatever thermal simulation modules, first on would need to define a domain which is the heat source and then another domain where the circulation takes place. But my model the domain I would like to use as temperature source is also the environment where I want to look at circulation caused by temperature differences. Could I ask for your help with selecting the correct thermal module to work with and also some hints on its usage would be welcome?
