Electrochemistry and Electrodeposition in COMSOL Multiphysics® One-Day Training Course

Intensive introduction to modeling electrochemical reactions in COMSOL Multiphysics®
This training course introduces the capabilities of the Electrochemistry Module and Electrodeposition Module, add-ons to the COMSOL Multiphysics® simulation platform. During the course, you will learn how to use these two modules to simulate electrochemical reactions and analyze the important characteristics of electrodeposition cells. The course will begin with the basics of electrochemical modeling and then gradually shift to more complex topics, such as dissolving–depositing electrodes, electrolyte mass transport, electrode deformation, and optimization.
During the training exercises, you will learn how to account for ohmic, activation, and concentration overpotential and define chemical and electrochemical reactions in COMSOL Multiphysics®. You will also learn how modeling can predict the effects that electrode geometry, material properties, and operating conditions have on the performance of electrochemical cells.
In addition, we will give an overview of the dedicated electrochemistry features that are available for simulating amperometry, potentiometry, and other electroanalytical techniques. Using the Electrodeposition Module, we will show how to simulate the impact of geometric changes on electrochemical processes, model moving boundaries, and predict the thickness of deposited layers.
All paid registrants will receive a free 14-day trial of COMSOL Multiphysics®, as well as the course material, prior to the course. Additionally, the training course will be recorded, and the recording will be made available to all registrants.
Training Course Objective
The goals of the course are to immerse you in the modeling workflow in COMSOL Multiphysics®, help you feel comfortable working with the Electrochemistry Module and the Electrodeposition Module, and provide you with the knowledge required for efficiently modeling electrochemistry and electrodeposition in the software.
To teach the course, we will use a combination of slide-based lectures and instructor-guided hands-on exercises.

- Electrochemical mass transport
- Deforming electrodes
- Parameter estimation and optimization
Exercises:
- Alloy deposition (simultaneous co-deposition)
- Electrodeposition of a microconnector bump with deforming geometry
- Estimation of reaction kinetic parameters
Suggested Background
This course assumes familiarity with the fundamentals of electrochemistry. We strongly recommend that those new to COMSOL Multiphysics® take the COMSOL Multiphysics® Intensive Training course prior to attending this class.
