Create the Future with Your Design Idea
Do you have an invention or idea that you think could change the future? NASA Tech Briefs’ Create the Future design contest is a great way to share your idea, receive recognition from your peers around the globe, and win some pretty cool prizes. NASA Tech briefs and we at COMSOL would like to invite you to submit your revolutionary design idea to the Create the Future design contest 2013. The contest spans eight different categories. Winners of the First Prize in each category will receive a Hewlett-Packard workstation computer. The Grand Prize winner is selected from one of the eight main categories and will receive $20,000 to help bring their product or idea to life.
NASA Tech Briefs Create the Future Design Contest 2013
Why should you consider entering the Create the Future design contest? Each year NASA Tech Briefs receives product design ideas that increase quality of life, promote switching from non-renewable energy sources, and improve the quality and efficiency of healthcare. Now imagine your design idea getting recognized for doing that.
So far, over 9,000 design ideas from 65+ countries have been submitted by engineers and researchers, and hundreds of thousands of dollars have been awarded in prizes. Last year, close to a thousand contestants entered the contest, and their submissions were seen by business and technology leaders across the globe, helping to bring these ideas one step closer to market.
In previous years, we’ve been impressed and excited by the entries that were sent in by COMSOL Multiphysics users. In 2011, for example, researchers from Yale University won the Grand Prize for their “αScreen Fast and Cheap Bacteria Detection”. The team behind this design created a sensor that helps to cheaply detect bacteria in food, eliminating the risk of food-borne illness and infection.
There have been quite a few other notable entries from COMSOL users. These include a Micro Robot that can manufacture MEMS parts, a Microelectrode array for focal neural stimulation, which outlines a new design of electrical stimulation to rehabilitate neural functions in the CNS, and a MEMSflower that uses movable micro solar cells to track the sun.
Submit Your Design to the Create the Future Contest
As the deadline for submitting ideas to the contest approaches (July 1st), we’re looking forward to seeing the ideas and designs that will be submitted by COMSOL users (that means you!) this year. Submitting an entry is easy and free-of-charge. You can get started by submitting a 500-word description of your design, along with an image, to the NASA Tech Briefs Contest webpage. You can also submit a 3-minute video describing your design.
The categories for entering include:
- Aerospace & Defense
- Consumer Products
- Machinery & Equipment
- Safety & Security
- Sustainable Technologies
- Transportation & Automotive
Even if you’re not going to submit your own design, you can still check out the other entries and vote for your favorite.
